I was fortunate enough to get to go on a weekend getaway with one of the funniest and funnest girls I know, my friend Kristen. And boy, did we sure have a good time! We were lucky enough to get to stay at her friends house just a short block away from Hermosa beach! Hermosa translated from Spanish means Beautiful, and the name was quite fitting 🙂
You would think that we would only need to pack a carry on for the weekend – but then we wouldn’t have been able to bring with our favorite accessory – our Roller blades! I was ecstatic at how flat the pathway was that we roller bladed on, as I’ve been known to fall on my face a time or two 🙂
We arrived Friday night just in time for sunset. Look at it – just look! It’s so peeerty. I may have taken a million pictures of it because you can never run out of film 🙂
We went out for dinner at Waterman’s, on a very popular restaurant/bar road close to the beach. I of course do not have a picture of my food because I ate it so fast (story of my life). But I can tell you the chicken tacos were delish, they have free chips and salsa (bonus), and happy hour until 7 – that’s what I’m taco-ing about.
That night we hit up the bars starting with the Chelsea Pub and Lounge. It had two separate areas one with hip hop music and the other more chill with pool and games. After we discovered our favorite place for the weekend – Baja Sharkeez. We literally came back every day 🙂 A night with Kristen wouldn’t be complete without ordering her favorite food – pizza! Thankfully Pedone’s pizza was close by and open late- or in the words of Kristen “That would have been a complete living nightmare!!”
‘The next day it was 78 degrees in Sunny – of course. Why don’t I live in cold Minnesota again?! We strapped on our blades and went straight to breakfast. Because we slept in we missed brunch. (I’m not gonna tell you how late we slept – but let’s just say we like to sleep 🙂 Thankfully we found a place that serves breakfast all day at The Good Stuff! We shared a yummy breakfast quesadilla and yogurt parfait. After we hit the beach! It was too cold to actually swim in the ocean, but perfect for a walk and tanning.
That night we took a Lyft to Manhattan for sushi at Fusion Sushi. I actually took a picture of this because we were served free edamame to hold me over. After, we were invited to tag along with a friend to a party at Hermosa Saloon. They had a live band playing classics, and people were boogieing the night away. That night we ended up back at Sharkeez Baja – because let’s face it we need to pop, lock, and drop it.
I don’t know about you but when I think of California I think of $$$ – meaning mucho dinero, a lotta dough, basically what I’m trying to say is that I always thought it was expensive. But to the contrary we found great deals on food and drinks. My favorite part was on our last day is I only spent $10 the entire day! How you ask? $10 breakfast + bottomless mimosas (for one hour – unless you get to know the bartender). You heard me – just 10 bucks! And they even have free chips and salsa buffet you can help yourself out to. It was a great place to watch the game – but we all know that’s not why we came. We came for the food obviously! I ordered the eggs benedict Sharkeez way which is not what you would expect. It consisted of mac and cheese with bacon, a hamburger patty, of course topped with a poached egg and hollandaise sauce. DROOL!
We put our blades back on, and with our friend Autumn on her skateboard, headed to the pier. At the end of the pier we discovered many people fishing. We of course made friends with some of them and they were kind enough to let us give it a go. And I caught my very first mackerel!
In the afternoon we stopped at a great snack place called Paradise bowls. Basically it’s giant bowl of fruit with delicious yet healthy toppings. I could definitely eat one of these every day. After some more blading it was time for us to head home. I’ve been to Cali many times, but I’m sure I’ll never stop going as that is one big state and there is so much more beauty left to see.
